The Isibindi Foundation has embarked on a new community-focused training initiative in northern KwaZulu-Natal, using FGASA learning materials and standards of training. This programme, facilitated by FGASA assessor and experienced trainer Brian Bode, is currently underway in the local communities on the edge of the iconic Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park.

Ten candidates from surrounding communities have been selected to participate in an intensive two-month short course aimed at introducing foundational guiding skills and knowledge, to support this FGASA has sponsored 5 out of the 10 learning material packs. The top-performing students from this group will be offered the opportunity to continue with the FGASA Field Guide (NQF2) certification – the first formal step in their professional guiding careers.

This partnership reflects FGASA’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity, transformation, and capacity building within the guiding profession. By supporting community-based training initiatives like this one, we help equip aspiring guides with the knowledge and certifications they need to build meaningful careers in ecotourism and conservation.

The Isibindi Foundation’s work in conservation, education and community upliftment aligns closely with FGASA’s mission to develop ethical, knowledgeable, and professional guides. Together, we are helping shape the future of guiding while creating access to opportunity for individuals from underserved areas.

We look forward to seeing these trainees grow into confident, capable guides and commend the Isibindi Foundation for their dedication to sustainable development and long-term impact.
