It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of Godfrey Mathebula, a member of the FGASA Board of Directors and industry icon who tragically passed away early this morning, 15 February 2024.

Godfrey was more than just an incredible guide and exemplary member of FGASA, he provided expert mentorship, a gentle guiding hand and inspired numerous others to pursue their dreams of working in the safari industry as well as making meaningful progress in their careers.

Godfrey’s passion for guiding and wildlife left an indelible mark on all those fortunate enough to work with him or be under his incredible guidance. Throughout his career, Godfrey remained committed to his own development and that of others, having achieved both his FGASA Professional Field Guide and FGASA Professional Trails Guide qualifications as well as the FGASA SKS Birding qualification. A true giant of our industry has fallen, and we would like to extend our most heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, loved ones and of course, the team at Motswari Private Game Reserve where Godfrey worked as the Assistant General Manager. We cannot express our devastation at hearing this tragic news and all of you are in our thoughts.
