We’re proud and honoured to congratulate Kgomotso Mokgathle on become the first black female to pass Madikwe Game Reserve’s infamous and wildly challenging ‘Jungle Lane’ shooting exercise.
Jungle Lane is considered one of the toughest and most challenging shooting assessments in the country. It consists of a predetermined route that the candidate must approach and walk as simulation. The simulated experience is that of a lead trails guide with guests. Along the route, various targets will be presented, some static, some moving and some “surprise” targets as well. The guide needs to hit each of these targets and complete the route within a set time. If the guide manages to complete the trail, hit the targets, meet the required score and complete the assessment within the time limit, they pass the assessment and are awarded the certification.
Kgomotso has been a rising start amongst the Madikwe guides and has worked tirelessly on her personal and professional growth as a guide. She achieved her first guiding certification in 2008 and has spent years developing her career. Kgomotso also made an appearance at Safari Guide of the Year 2025 as one of our invitational candidates, an honour extended to those guides who show remarkable commitment to their careers and are invited to participate in the event despite not yet meeting the criteria to compete among the finalists.
Recently, Kgomotso decided to undertake a new career challenge, Trails Guide. She passed her very first ARH at the start of 2025 and then went on to pass the infamous Jungle Lane shoot, an assessment that has undone many a marksman in the past. The magnitude of this achievement cannot be understated.
The achievement was made possible through the unwavering support of FGASA mentor and assessor, Darran Myers from Dhumukwa Guide Trainging, Kgomotso underwent an intense 10-day advanced rifle handling course to help her prepare for both her FGASA ARH assessment and the Jungle Lane shooting assessment. This intensive training included over 100 hours of rifle basics, handling, shooting practice, and advanced weapon techniques.
Congratulations Kgomotso, we are thrilled with your incredible achievement and look forward to supporting your guiding career journey and helping you take your standards of professionalism even higher!
