Outlook Travel - Safari Operator

We are a Safari Operator based inside the Kruger and are looking for permanent FGASA Field Guides (NQF2)  / FGASA Advanced Field Guides (NQF4) with big 5 experience to conduct safaris in the Kruger.

Part of the duties include hosting of the clients, assisting with minor maintenance in and around the campsite as well as with the open vehicles. Occasional local transfers and guided trips along the Panorama Route may also be required.

The working cycle is 3 weeks on and 1 week off and it is a live-in position (basic tent) at the campsite where we operate from inside the Park and also includes meals.

SINGITA : FIELD GUIDE

 

 A field guide provides a core service to the lodge/s, which is in effect the department’s “customer”. The field guides are fully responsible for conducting guided safari experiences at Singita that are unique, personalized, professional and enjoyable, and are accountable to the Head Ranger for the delivery of such experiences to the guests.

The main purpose of the field guide is to ensure that an all-encompassing wildlife experience is offered to every guest with the focus on catering to the specific needs of each individual guest. The entire experience should be delivered with humility, professionalism and flexibility, with the end result being an educational experience for all.  The guiding service should be delivered with an uncompromising sensitivity towards the environment. Field guides are expected to be involved in an ongoing process of self –improvement and knowledge enhancement. They are responsible for their own continuous education and that of their tracker.

Game drive vehicles and related equipment are to be well-maintained and cared for at all times, in line with the required Singita Standards. Finally, field guides need to ensure that there is effective communication with lodge management in terms of all guest and guiding requirements. This position is accountable to the Head Guide.

Skills & Experience

•A minimum of 2 years work experience as a field guide in a similar lodge environment

SHAMWARI PRIVATE GAME RESERVE : STUDENT CO-ORDINATOR

1. Minimum criteria required:
• Candidates should be in possession of a Conservation, Wildlife, Environmental Education or related diploma, degree or qualification.
• Candidates should be fully registered guides with DEAT and the Local Registrar of Guides, in possession of a valid FGASA Level 1 and all valid certification to legally operate as a field guide, with at least one year of experience in the field.
• Having previous experience in the student and sabbatical volunteer sectors and being in possession of trails guiding certificate will be of favour.


2. Key Performance Areas: amongst other
• Aid in the planning and execution of all student/volunteer related activities on and off the reserve, including extra mural activities as required.
• Conducting talks, lectures and presentations on subjects relating to conservation, fauna, flora, geology and astronomy.
• Conducting social work and talks in our local communities and schools, such as environmental days, teaching, sports and other interactions, as required.
• Working in conjunction with the Wildlife Department, Born Free, film crews and other strategic partners.
• Work closely in conjunction with and report to the Senior Student Coordinator with regard daily responsibilities and tasks, setting out of related itineraries, developing and pioneering new guest experiences, hosting and conducting educational visits.
• Introducing a new, self-driven conservation research project that will benefit the company’s already existing projects.
• Maintenance and management of company equipment and vehicles used in execution of guest operation.
• Conduct all guest activities to fall within the required health and safety standards.
• Carrying out any related duties that might be annexed as result of operational requirements


3. Competencies required:
• Valid driver’s licence Code 08/EB (including the ability to tow a trailer)
• Valid Pr.DP (Professional Driving Permit)
• Valid First Aid certificate (min Level 1)
• BRH with preference to those with FGASA ARH certification

Senior Guide, Cederberg Ridge, Cederberg

Cederberg Ridge is a luxury wilderness lodge, set in the stunning area of the Cederberg Mountains outside Clanwilliam. The styling of the lodge is, ‘Modern African Farmhouse’ creating a warm and inviting interior yet light and airy. The lodge caters for a guest who would like to explore the surrounding by hiking, mountain biking or meandering to the wineries in the area taking in the views.

Management position for a hotel in the Drakensburg

We are looking for a single male with guiding/hospitality experience or farming or preferably both for a management position at a small luxury hotel in the Drakensberg.

The position will be temporary with a view to becoming permanent.

Candidates must be prepared to live on the premises and have their own transport. Responsibilities include; hosting of guests and assisting in the hotel, maintenance of the hotel and grounds, managing the farm staff and attending to all technical aspects of the property.

Field Guide - Limpopo Eco Operations (LEO Africa)

LEO Africa is a big 5 and wildlife monitoring and conservation volunteer project located on the Marataba section of the Marakele National Park. Our mission is to help and provide the Park Section Management with relevant information on the key species on the park, such as lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, black and white rhino and hyena, as well as conservation work and contributing towards anti-poaching activities. LEO Africa is the only monitoring facility in the park, making our work vital for the management of the park. LEO Africa is also an environmentally conscious organisation, operating in a responsible way and promoting sustainable living.
LEO Africa is seeking a dedicated, committed, hardworking and passionate guide to join our team. You will be involved in several aspects of conservation, and wildlife monitoring alongside duties at LEO base. Volunteers that join our project assist us in our work.


Duties to include, but not limited to:

  •  Games drives with volunteers to specifically monitor Big 5, hyenas and cheetahs
  •  Conservation activities
  •  Data insert and analysis
  •  Writing reports for the park management
