GUIDING OPPORTUNITY IN THE CRADLE OF HUMANKIND UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE (2014/11/27)

We are seeking a number of exceptional full- or part-time guides for a new high-end tourism venture situated in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage site. Prospective candidates should hold a FGASA or equivalent qualification, Professional Driving Permit and be able to work as a tour guide in Gauteng Province. The guiding will include traditional game guiding in a private nature reserve, natural history as well as a strong early human origins focus, with specific reference to well-known sites in the region. Guiding will involve between one and two, 4 hour guided tours per day based on typical game drive vehicle experiences with up to nine guests. Selection will commence immediately with tours to begin as early as February 2015. Successful applicants must have their own transport and ideally live in the North or West of Gauteng Province. Contracts and market related remuneration will be negotiated based on individual’s skills, experience and availability. Job description:

Management couple required for exclusive Desert Lodge on privately owned reserve in the Namib. Included is the management of the reserve and property as well as the busy overland campsite. Candidates will need to be pro-active in marketing and promoting the reserve and lodge as well as competent in desert ecology and management.

Skills required:
Well organized and experienced in management of staff and facilities in remote locations; Mechanical aptitude with regards to vehicles and power supplies is essential. The couple must have exceptional hosting and guest relations with prior lodge/hospitality experience essential and must be prepared to work in a very remote environment. Between the couple full catering/FNB for lodge guests on a personal basis will form part of the duties.

LION AND BLACK RHINO VOLUNTEER MONITORING PROGRAMME(2014/10/29)

We are looking for a dedicated, committed, hard working, passionate Junior Guide for a work opportunity in our lion and rhino conservation monitoring programme in the Selati Game Reserve. It is a very good opportunity as the guide will not only guide, but will develop research, organization and analysis skills. The guide will have the objective to monitor and track the Selati lions, rhinos, elephants, leopards and collect data on other species, with the help of the volunteers that join our project.

The role involves:
• Game Drives to specifically monitor our lions but also elephant, leopards and white rhinos
• Specifically monitor the black rhinos and help in granting their security
• Farm management activities
• Koppie climbing with the volunteers
• Bush walks with the volunteers
• Data insert and analysis
• Writing weekly, monthly and annual reports for the reserve
• Creation of ID kits on lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos and spotted hyenas

• Give FGASA talks to our volunteers once a week on a rotary basis with the other staff members
