The type of person that we are looking for is a professional National Tour Guide, that has lead a good number of extended tours throughout South Africa, Kenya, and Victoria Falls.

FIELD GUIDE FOR SCHOOL CHILDREN - KLOOFENDAL (2014/04/12)

We are looking for field guides to take groups of not more than 20 learners (Gr 0 to 12) on a two-hour guided nature experience in the Kloofendal Nature Reserve, Johannesburg, as required.  Add 1/2 hour for briefing before the walk and 1/2 hour for debriefing and returning equipment.  You will be required to accompany an experienced guide for a few sessions before starting on your own.  You will be evaluated on your handling skills and your knowledge adapted appropriately to the age group of the learners.

Minimum Requirements
FGASA Level 1 (Gauteng / North-West)

FIELD GUIDE/GROUNDS MANAGER (2014/03/31)

We are looking for a Game Ranger with the following qualifications ASAP.

FGASA Level 1 (Min) – level 2 preferable
Min 1 year experience
Must have a PDP license. 
Male or female.

No star grading yet, but should be 4 star, 9 rooms, 18 pax.

RANGER - THANDEKA LODGE

Thandeka Lodge is located about 35km from Bela-Bela. A ranger position is available.

LEAD AND BACK-UP RIFLE - WILDLIFE & ECOLOGICAL INVESTMENTS (2014/03/31)

The candidate will responsible for the safety of students during training and data collection for projects on bird, game and invertebrate diversity in Nature Game Reserves as part of the field research programmes hosted by Wildlife & Ecological Investments for Operation Wallacea Expeditions in South Africa.
There are positions available for both Lead and Back-up Rifle on this project. 

Key Duties:
1. Ensure the safety of groups in the field whilst they are collecting data on bird, game and invertebrate diversity.
2. Ensure the safety of groups during detailed habitat assessments.
3. Ensure students are escorted to and from accommodation in unfenced camps. 
4. Lead training bush walks for students (Lead Rifle only)

Requirements: 
SASSETA rifle handling competency, POSLEC SAPS competency. 
VPDA qualification.
Advance Rifle Handling (ARH).
First Aid accreditation.
FGASA Level/s will be advantageous.
Ability to interact with volunteers (college and undergraduate university students) in the field.
Candidates who are able to use their own rifles would be preferred.
Experience: 
The candidate must have experience working in dangerous game areas (Big 5).
No previous research experience is needed as all Trails Guides will be given training in relevant research methods.
Remuneration
A weekly wage will be paid. All meals, camp accommodation, on site transport and park fees are also provided.

FIELD GUIDE: RESEARCH ASSISTANT - WILDLIFE & ECOLOGICAL INVESTMENTS (2014/03/31)

The candidate will be assisting with bird surveys, game transects, invertebrate pitlines and habitat analyses as part of the field research programmes hosted by Wildlife & Ecological Investments for Operation Wallacea Expeditions in South Africa.

Key Duties:
1. Leading groups in the field to collect data on bird, game and invertebrate diversity.
2. Leading detailed habitat assessments. 
3. Leading game drives.
4. Supervising daily schedules and camp activities.
5. Leading training sessions to ensure that students have a basic understanding of the bush and surrounding environment (e.g. briefings on animal behaviour, interpreting tracks and signs, star gazing etc.).
6. Leading debates in controversial conservation topics such as elephant management and trophy hunting.

Requirements: 
FGASA Level 1 or higher.
Valid driver’s licence. 
Professional Drivers Permit (PDP). 
First Aid accreditation. 
DEAT & THETA Registration (if working in SANParks reserves).
A degree in Nature Conservation or a related course will be advantageous.
Ability to interact with volunteers (college and undergraduate university students) in the field.
Experience: 
The candidate must have the ability to identify (by sight and sound) all common bird and tree species in area of operation which they are applying to work in. 
Minimum 6 months experience in the field.
No previous research experience is needed as all Research Assistants will be given training in relevant research methods.

LION AND BLACK RHINO VOLUNTEER MONITORING PROGRAMME (2014/03/06)

We are looking for a dedicated, committed, hard working, passionate Junior Guide for a work opportunity in our lion and rhino conservation monitoring programme in the Selati Game Reserve. It is a very good opportunity as the guide will not only guide, but will develop research, organization and analysis skills. The guide will have the objective to monitor and track the Selati lions, rhinos, elephants, leopards and collect data on other species, with the help of the volunteers that join our project. The role involves:

• Game Drives to specifically monitor our lions but also elephant, leopards and white rhinos
• Specifically monitor the black rhinos and help in granting their security
• Farm management activities
• Koppie climbing with the volunteers
• Bush walks with the volunteers
• Data insert and analysis
• Writing weekly, monthly and annual reports for the reserve
• Creation of ID kits on lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos and spotted hyenas
• House works 
• Give FGASA talks to our volunteers once a week on a rotary basis with the other staff members

Requirements:
• FGASA Level 1 (Theory and Practical completed)

Kloofwaters is an outdoor centre with a strong Christian ethos. Kloofwaters is a joint venture between St John’s College and St Mary’s School Waverley, set in the Buffelspoort area of the Magaliesberg, 100 km from Johannesburg or Pretoria. The campus hosts camps for pupils from Grade 3 through to post-matric from various schools and organisations.  A variety of programmes are offered, from adventure and leadership to educational camps, with emphasis on experiential learning.

OUTDOOR CENTRE MANAGER 
The responsibilities of the Outdoor Centre Manager include, inter alia:  
  • Ensuring the quality of camping programmes, accommodation and catering that are offered at Kloofwaters

  • Recruiting, training, managing and developing staff  
  • Ensuring the day to day sound financial management of the operation • Liaison with clients/ schools

ASSISTANT CATERING MANAGER 
The responsibilities of the Assistant Catering Manager include, inter alia: 
  • Overseeing all of the hospitality functions during camps to ensure the comfort of the guests – campers and their teachers or leaders.  
  • Planning and costing menus.  
  • Ordering and procurement of all catering requirements.  
  • Leading and managing the kitchen and cleaning staff.  • Responsibility for catering administration. 
Flexibility is required in so far as time is concerned as three meals are provided each day during camps, which may run over weekdays or weekends.  

SENIOR FACILITATOR 
The responsibilities of the Senior Facilitator include, inter alia:  
  • Leading and managing a team of facilitators to implement camp programmes  
  • Assisting with planning and running a variety of camps for pupils  
  • Assisting with designing camp programmes and revising existing content  
  • Working closely with the Kloofwaters management team  
  • Certain administrative function  
  • Ensuring the safety of the campers and staff at Kloofwaters  
 Previous experience of working with young people in camp and educational backgrounds is imperative. Flexibility is required as camp days run from sunrise to lights-out and may include weekends or public holidays. Basic accommodation will be provided on the property. The incumbent will be required to travel between the campus and Johannesburg in order to liaise with clients.

CAMP MANAGER / GUIDE AT A PRIVATE TENTED CAMP IN BALULE- GREATER KRUGER AREA (2014/02/19)

Candidates will be expected to conduct open vehicle drives and guided walks in big-5 area as well as manage the tented camp and associated staff. Excellent communication and cooking skills as well as a thorough understanding of the lodge services industry and the importance of  customer service is essential.

Vehicle maintenance and general farm/lodge maintenance will also be expected from time to time.
Applicants must be able to communicate  in Afrikaans.
The position is live-in all incl and for a single person. 
Candidates must be willing to attend personal interview in Johannesburg as well as at the Lodge where skills and knowledge will be tested.
