Mokolo River Private Nature Reserve (MRPNR) is a medium size reserve some 7000 hectares in extent situated between Vaalwater and Thabazimbi on the Mokolo River. It is a private nature reserve and has recently been awarded protected area status.
MRPNR requires the services of an enthusiastic person to assist with the practical aspects of the running of a nature reserve.
A FGASA qualification is an advantage but most important is that the person should be self-motivated and able to work in a team environment. The person should have a “can do” attitude and be prepared to tackle any of the multitude of issues that arise on a nature reserve. A mechanical and practical aptitude is consequently a prerequisite.
Responsibilities will include all basic infrastructure maintenance (vehicles, road and fences), water reticulation and infrastructure maintenance, basic building and structures maintenance, clearing of invasive and alien plants, upkeep and integrity of waterholes and a primary focus on bush work in conjunction with a team of experienced and knowledgeable field staff. Candidates must be in possession of an unendorsed Code 08 driver’s licence, however candidates with a Code 10 drivers licence will be given preference.
It should be noted that MRPNR does not cater for commercial guests and it is run as a private conservation operation only. The position is therefore not a traditional guiding role and contact on the reserve is with the management team only. The applicant should therefore be comfortable living on a nature reserve for extended periods of up to eight (8) weeks at a time while on duty. Living quarters are offered for a single person.
The position offers the successful applicant hands on experience with the practical side of conservation. Salary is between SEVEN THOUSAND, TWO HUNDRED RAND (ZAR 7,200.00) and EIGHT THOUSAND RAND (ZAR 8,000) per month negotiable depending on experience. An initial probationary period of three (3) months will apply.
Interviews will be conducted in Modimolle (Nylstroom) or Vaalwater for short-listed candidates.
