Qualifications:    FGASA 1, PDP and current first aid. Experience with working with volunteers and researcher is advantageous.

Job Description:    
•    Assist with day to day running of the Research Centre. 
•    Assisting with current research projects & establishment of future projects
•    Assisting with guiding & logistical arrangements for researchers, volunteers and student groups
•    Assisting with research field work, data collection, capturing and analysis
•    Eco Centre – assist with maintenance, upkeep and development of new interpretative material
•    The opportunity to set up & run your own research project
•    Checking-in & hosting of guests, student groups, volunteers and researchers accommodated in Bush Camp
•    Saturday shopping trips to town for students, researchers & volunteers
•    Transfers of students, researchers & volunteers
•    Assist with bush-craft training and orientation of new volunteers, students and researchers
 

Your guiding & lodge responsibilities include:
•    Managing guest activities in respect of walking trails, game viewing excursions, birding and fishing, as well as assisting with bush dinners.
•     Assist with the development, promoting and guiding of research-based tourism activities for lodge guests and other visitors.
•    Hosting of guests and assisting with service as required by the lodge manager.
•    Give presentations and/or demonstrations to lodge guests and visitors on ecological topics and research related projects
General duties will include:
•    Assist with the basic maintenance and upkeep of Research Centre vehicles
•    Assist with the general maintenance of bush camp facilities
•    Maintenance & development of all walking trails and main game drive routes within the reserves.

Remuneration:
R4500 plus accommodation, electricity, water and internet connection

1.    Garden Route (Cape Town to Port Elizabeth)  We need a guide with general knowledge of Western and Eastern cape and qualified obviously in these 2 provinces. A bit of history, flora knowledge etc.  When we visit places like Birds of Eden etc, they have their own qualified guides that know the animals and the scientific information. 
2.    Northern Cape. Is there a “Khoi” guide or someone that comes from that area that will be able to not just give facts on the Namakwaland area (fauna, flora & history), but can tell the clients about growing up in the area, tradition, folklore/legends, home remedies/local food etc.  I want the clients to experience more than just facts. The tour guide should ‘capture the essence’ of the Northern Cape’s people and hospitality for them.
3.    Guauteng, Mpumalanga, Swaziland, Natal guide. Someone with good knowledge of nature & cultures. (Tour starts in Gauteng, visiting Kruger, Panorama route, Swaziland and ending in Durban)

GUIDE - LION AND BLACK RHINO VOLUNTEER MONITORING PROGRAMME (2014/08/08)

We are looking for a dedicated, committed, hard working, passionate Junior Guide for a work opportunity in our lion and rhino conservation monitoring programme in the Selati Game Reserve. It is a very good opportunity as the guide will not only guide, but will develop research, organization and analysis skills. The guide will have the objective to monitor and track the Selati lions, rhinos, elephants, leopards and collect data on other species, with the help of the volunteers that join our project. The role involves:
 
• Game Drives to specifically monitor our lions but also elephant, leopards and white rhinos
• Specifically monitor the black rhinos and help in granting their security
• Farm management activities
• Koppie climbing with the volunteers
• Bush walks with the volunteers
• Data insert and analysis
• Writing weekly, monthly and annual reports for the reserve
• Creation of ID kits on lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos and spotted hyenas
• House works 
• Give FGASA talks to our volunteers once a week on a rotary basis with the other staff members

Requirements:

GENERAL ASSISTANT MOKOLO RIVER PRIVATE NATURE RESERVE, VAALWATER, LIMPOPO PROVINCE (2014/07/29)

Mokolo River Private Nature Reserve (MRPNR) is a medium size reserve some 7000 hectares in extent situated between Vaalwater and Thabazimbi on the Mokolo River.  It is a private nature reserve and has recently been awarded protected area status.
 
MRPNR requires the services of an enthusiastic person to assist with the practical aspects of the running of a nature reserve.
A FGASA qualification is an advantage but most important is that the person should be self-motivated and able to work in a team environment.  The person should have a “can do” attitude and be prepared to tackle any of the multitudes of issues that arise on a nature reserve. A mechanical and practical aptitude is consequently a prerequisite.
 
Responsibilities will include all basic infrastructure maintenance (vehicles, road and fences), water reticulation and infrastructure maintenance, basic building and structures maintenance, clearing of invasive and alien plants, upkeep and integrity of waterholes and a primary focus on bush work in conjunction with a team of experienced and knowledgeable field staff. Candidates must be in possession of an unendorsed Code 08 driver’s licence, however candidates with a Code 10 drivers licence will be given preference.
 
It should be noted that MRPNR does not cater for commercial guests and it is run as a private conservation operation only. The position is therefore not a traditional guiding role and contact on the reserve is with the management team only.  The applicant should therefore be comfortable living on a nature reserve for extended periods of up to eight (8) weeks at a time while on duty.  Living quarters are offered for a single person.  The position offers the successful applicant hands on experience with the practical side of conservation. Salary is between SIX THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED RAND (ZAR 6,500.00) and SEVEN THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED RAND (ZAR 7,200) per month negotiable depending on experience. An initial probationary period of three (3) months will apply. 
Interviews will be conducted in Modimole (Nylstroom) for short-listed candidates.
