FIELD GUIDE / SKIPPER POSITION: GHOST MOUNTAIN INN (26/08/2010)

The Ghost Mountain Inn is a 4 star hotel Located in Mkuze, northern Kwa-Zulu Natal. We have our own Safari Department and pride ourselves on the very high standard of service provided for every guest.
We have a position available for a person who would foremost fill a skipper and  guiding position but in down time would be able to fit into another niche (preferably in the maintenance department or as a Duty manager and host). Out of season this secondary position may become your main function.
The guiding is varied and includes reserves (game and birding), boat cruises, tiger fishing, hikes, culture and history excursions.

Requirements would include:
• A valid first aid certificate preferably level 2.
• A valid PDP.
• At least a FGASA level I or equivalent.

• An enthusiastic ‘people’s person’
• Excellent communication skills in English as the work is generally with international tourists.
• Other languages would be an asset
• Hard working, honest and reliable.
• Neat, tidy and punctual. Of sober habits
• A team player
Advantages would be:
• Birding knowledge.
• Trails guide and rifle handing certificate.
• Marine fire fighting certificate.
• Good knowledge of plants and their cultural and medicinal significance.
• Knowledge of rural Zulu culture and traditions.
• Having caught a tiger fish before.
The remuneration package is negotiable and depends on the skills brought to the table.

GUIDING POSITION & MANAGMENT POSITION - WILDEARTH MEDIA - DJUMA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE (24/08/2010)

WildEarth is a LIVE wildlife tv channel that broadcasts to a global audience the Safari Channel broadcasts LIVE safaris daily from Djuma Game Reserve in the Sabi Sands. Every day there is one from 06h00 CAT to 09h00CAT and one from 15h00CAT to 18h00 CAT.On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays the crew go out at night and broadcast a safari from 18h30 to 20h30 CAT. 
The safari consists of a Presenter/Expert Ranger who drives around the reserve looking for animals both big and small. A camera person sits on the back of the safari vehicle and their camera is your eyes. This gives a fantastic feeling of actually being on the back of the vehicle as it bumps through the African bush. The Safari Channel also hosts a number of other live show such as fire side chats with the crew, reMARCable creatures and photography shows.

Position One: Wildlife TV Presenter
 
We are looking for a highly experienced guide to live at Djuma and work as a Presenter on our tv channel. The job will entails presenting one or two LIVE safari's a day. 
This person must be: 
· highly knowledgable (FGASA Level 2),
· lots of fun and
· confident in front of a camera.
· Someone who has travelled a little would be good as the audience are global but most of all professional, interesting and fun. 
Salary - R10,000 pcm.
Position Two: Team Leader of Wildlife TV Crew

WildEarth TV are also looking for a manager who will oversee the day to day activities of this crew in Djuma. 
 
You will need to have: 
· budgeting skills
· scheduling skills and
· bush living skills.
· You will need to be able to command respect.
· You will need to be well educated and
· Able to learn the technical ropes of broadcasting and the deadlines that occur with tv.
· Overall we need a natural leader and someone who is used to leading small teams in the bush.
Salary - R20,000 pcm

The Sabi Sands is one of the top locations in South Africa for viewing game. It is often possible to see the big five in one drive. That is lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino and elephant. There are numerous beautiful birds and a whole host of other, smaller, animals.

GUIDE POSITION - TSHUKUDU GAME LODGE (16/08/2010)

A guide position is available for a single young ranger who has a genuine passion and love for guiding and nature, as well as being able to communicate with international guests.
 
Starting salary will be R3 500 to R 4000 per month depending on experience.

The Applicant must:
· Have at least 2 years guiding experience (within big 5 areas preferable),
· a FGASA Level 2 (FGASA Level 2 Theory a minimum) ,
· a PDP,
· Advanced Weapons Handling and be,
· Registered with DEAT.
The applicant must have a good command of the English language, not be afraid of hard work and  be willing to work in a team.
Duties are to conduct daily walks and drives through the reserve, and also to socialise with their guests during their stay. The guide will also be involved in assisting with the daily running of the game farm, and its relevant projects.

A renowned Game Reserve situated in the picturesque setting of the southern Midlands of Kwa Zulu Natal, is looking for an experienced Field Guide to fill a live in position. 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Drivers Licence with PDP

The successful candidate will be required to do night shifts in the bar, host guests and take them on Game Drives and Walks, assume assistant manager duties and to help out with general maintenance around this prestigious National Heritage Site.

The position is offering a salary of R 4 500 – R 5 000, with 5 days off a month and 18 days annual leave.
